What is key club?
Mission Statement: Key Club is an international student-led organization which provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character and develop leadership.
History
Key Club was created by two Kiwanis members in Sacramento, California, who hoped to get young students involved in the community. Since the two Kiwanis members were school administrators the first Key Club was run through a high school in May of 1925. At first, Key Club was only offered to male students, but this youth run service group flourished in only a few years and was offered to many other students. Other Kiwanis clubs across the country favored the idea of a Key Club and began to sponsor their own service club. By 1943, Key Club became a world wide club and the International Association of Key Clubs was formed.
Key Club continues to serve as a service program for high school students throughout the world. It is the oldest and largest service program with more than 250,000 members in 5,000 clubs in 30 countries.
